KATHRYN HINTON
Kathryn Hinton works from her studio near Edinburgh, where she designs and makes contemporary jewellery and silverware exploring geometric surfaces and faceted forms. Her practice brings together computer aided design and traditional handmaking techniques, resulting in refined, stylish pieces intended for everyday use and wear.
With over twenty years of experience, Kathryn began making jewellery and silverware after graduating with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery and Silversmithing from Kent Institute of Art and Design. She went on to further her studies at Bishopsland Workshops before completing an MA in 2008 and an MPhil research degree in 2010 at the Royal College of Art. In 2011, she moved to Edinburgh, where she has continued to design and develop new collections.
The use of new technology, both as a design tool and as a method of making, has been central to shaping the language of her work. Drawing on her extensive experience and technical knowledge, Kathryn creates jewellery and silverware that emphasise contemporary form, precision and innovative surface design.
