Corinne trained at the Royal College of Art and Sheffield University and was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Art in 2008 for services to design and craft. She is a guest lecturer at a number of arts universities including the Royal College of Art, Central St Martin’s and on the Sotheby’s MA in Decorative Arts. She works closely with makers and designers, both in formal situations and in a mentoring role. Corinne has been a judge for many applied arts and design awards, including the Jerwood Applied Arts Prize for Metalwork. She is Chair of the Wood Awards Furniture and Product Panel, is a member of the Goldsmiths’ Company Contemporary Collection Committee and was on the Glenmorangie Collection Committee. She has also served as a Trustee of Contemporary Applied Arts [CAA]. Corinne regularly conducts ‘In Conversations’ for institutions, galleries and makers. She is a noted curator of contemporary craft. Associating with boundary, volume, silhouette, capacity, shadow and subtle detail, his practice concentrates on exploring the connection of internal and external, positive and negative space in his vessels and containers. She often includes metal wire, used like three-dimensional line drawing in space. Applying traditional techniques such as hand piercing, drilling and soldering, I enjoy working in a variety of metals, combining them in an exploration of colour and texture. Having made functional silver tableware for years, her work is becoming increasingly abstract and less concerned with the traditional perceptions of function. Ane’s new work investigates the meeting of contrasting elements within a form. Simple, heavy and calm forms are ‘interrupted’ by visually complex, open and delicate structures. The essence is in the dialogue, tension or collision that happens in that meeting point. Ane’s work continues to explore the subjects of illusion and balance.
